What are standard lampshade ring hole sizes?
Most shade ring holes are 27mm (AU standard) or 40mm (European standard) in diameter. You use lamp holders designed for lampshades if this is the case. See this guide for more details.

Sometimes the shade hole is much smaller. If the hole is at least 10mm in diameter, you can use M10 threaded hardware extensions and cable clamps as outlined below.

Use an extension rod and a cylindrical cable clamp on either side of the hole. If the hole is larger than 10mm, use a reducing washer.

The length of the metal extension rod determines where the lamp holder sits within the shade frame. All Creative-Cables components work seamlessly together using standard M10 (10mm) all-thread rod.

If you would like the lamp holder to hang directly on fabric cable, do not use an extension rod; instead, use two cylindrical cable clamps or washers sandwiched together around the shade hole.

Our fabric cable comfortably holds a maximum recommended shade weight of 1.7kg (and up to 3kg under specific conditions). This remains at the professional discretion of your licensed electrician, so please consult with them prior to installation.

Looping fabric cable directly around structural bars on lightweight rattan or woven shades is an effective mounting option.
